For about 10-years exploring mostly the Southern part of Mexico, I went to Mexico whenever I got the chance to visit the Mayan pyramids and hang out with my Mexican friends, and I came to love the people, music and a fascination of the food. And each visit, discovering more of what Mexico can offer the independent traveller looking for an adventure.
My only plan, as in each journey - Get outside the very narrow regions of heavy tourism - into the real Mexico...
Mexico is part of the Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific coast. Home to Mayan, Aztec, and Olmec Cultures. Deserts, Jungle, volcanoes and great Spanish colonial towns and cities.
Mexico is one of the most dangerous places you will ever travel to. For every month you spend in Mexico, you will put on a stone in weight. The food is so irresistible, you will find yourself trying every new dish you see and becoming addicted to salsa picante.......
Everyone loves Mexico, with it's warm welcome and wonderful great vibes. 'The people, the very lively music, the history and the food that makes Mexico such an interesting place to spend your time. To travel Mexico means having a smile on your face for a very long-time.
Viva Mexico! One of my favourite places in the world, I have visited at least 5 times and have some good Mexican friends and fond memories.
Getting around - Mexico has a great network of 1st class buses.
Mexico adventure - eating my way across Southern Mexico............................
2 hour bus trip south of Cancun. Bit of a hippy town split between the town and the Caribbean beach with a choice of hostels and cabanas "beach huts" With lots of great place to eat and chill out. A great places to base yourself for a while and climatise, before crossing Mexico.
Whilst in the Yucatán Peninsula, a stop to Chichen Itza would not be complete.
